MNF: Tebow Time in NY? Brian Cushing out for season?

Cushing went down with an injury during the game

The Houston Texans are now 5-0 and the lowly Jets are now 2-3, but after watching this game I learned many things about both teams. Let’s start with the Houston Texans, I have already voiced my reason on why I am not a believer in this team, but I was very surprised with their lackluster performance against the Jets. Schaub struggled against a Jets defense that is without their best player, and he played eerily similar to Sanchez on that night (Schaub – 14/28 209 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, Sanchez – 14/31, 230 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT). If it wasn’t for Arian Foster, the Texans would have struggled to score. On the defensive side, the Texans were good (J.J. Watt is going to be Defensive Player of the Year) and managed to make two key interceptions in the game. However, Cushing left the game with an injury and could miss a significant portion of the season. This injury comes at a bad time, especially with a Packers and Ravens team looking to improve their game play, and makes the Texans road to an easy Superbowl trip a bit more difficult.

The Jets offensively were what we expected and struggled to get anything going. While Sanchez did get a score, McKnight’s kickoff return helped keep these Jets in the game. After hearing the fans chant Tebow’s name during the game, it makes me wonder when will Ryan feel pressured to bench Sanchez. Tebow time is starting to look more like a reality for the Jets and I’m sure Bill Belichick can’t wait to see that happen in week 7 at Foxboro.

On a positive note, I was very impressed with the defense, who looked like they learned about their mistakes after the 49ers game, and impressed with Cromartie who held Johnson to only one catch. Interesting Stat: The Jets are ranked 6th in the league in terms of passing defense.

In looking ahead at the schedule for both teams, one wonders what the impact of a possible Tebow start or Cushing’s injury could mean for the rest of the regular season. Who knows, maybe the Texans and Jets have a re-match in the playoffs…crazier things have happened in the NFL, like having replacement referees.
